Coconut oil is one of the greatest cosmetic products and unlike the mass-produced lotions and conditioners, it has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin and hair and moisturizes in a more natural way.
In order to reap all the benefits of this delightful oil you should just try a few simple treatments.
1. Before bed treatment
You should do this each and every single night before going to bed. When cold, coconut oil is solid and when it gets warm it turns to liquid. So take some of the coconut oil, warm it in your hands and rub gently on your face.
Let the coconut oil on your skin for 30-60 minutes. You’ll be amazed of how much of the oil ends up being absorbed into your skin. When you’re done, remove it with a wet towel with water as hot as your skin can tolerate. Wipe the oil off of your skin with the wet towel and then dry it with a dry towel.
2. For hangnails
You can also cure problems with the cuticle with coconut oil. Don’t reach for expensive lotions that don’t even work right away, instead massage a bit of melted coconut oil into your nail beds. If you do this every day for a month it will clear up the dry, cracking skin around the nails. Also you will notice that your nails are stronger than ever.
3. For cellulite
Cellulite is a tough thing for many women to deal with and coconut oil is maybe the easiest way to get rid of it. Take one tablespoon of coconut oil, warm it on the stove and add a teaspoon of honey to it. After it melts down, mix the two ingredients together and apply it on your skin. Leave it on for a half hour to an hour, wipe off with a hot towel and you will notice the results in a couple of weeks.
4. For dry hands
To cure your dry hands, take some coconut oil, warm it up, and rub thoroughly all over your hands. This will make your hands oily so if you don’t have the time to wait your skin to absorb the oil, you can throw on some latex gloves.
Latex gloves are a great idea because they will keep in the heat and the moisture of the coconut oil, thus improve the effectiveness of the treatment. The best thing is that the coconut oil not only will help you get rid of the dry spots on the hands, but also the age spots and other blemishes.
5. For shaving
First throw away your shaving cream then take a bit of coconut oil, warm it and rub on your face, neck, armpit, legs, or wherever you want to shave.
If you really want to have the frothiness of a more traditional shaving cream, add a little bit of diluted castile soap, but don’t add too much though, since it will dry out your skin.
6. For conditioning your hair
Melt about a tablespoon of coconut oil by just using the heat from your hands. When you melt it, just apply the oil on the hair and scalp.
It is very important to take the time to massage it in thoroughly. If your hair is long you will need a little bit more of coconut oil. It can be applied on the beard as well if it starts to get bristly and it will soften it right away.
Leave the coconut oil on your hair for about 2 hours. And if you have the time, leave it for longer, since the longer the better. The problem here can be getting it off the hair and it usually requires longer period of time running it under hot water.
It is important to remember that the heat causes it to melt down, so a hot shower will do the trick. It usually can take you about 10 minutes to rinse it all out and after that you just need to shampoo it like normal.
You will soon notice that your hair is softer than ever before in your life.
Try these tricks and you’ll notice your skin and hair getting younger and younger after every treatment with coconut oil.
